Mel comes to church with me
and seems amused
by the spectacle
that is Sunday Mornings at our church
with lots of loud music
and shouts of “Jesus!”
as if they are calling to someone
who is very far away
and asking him to come back

I close my eyes
and yell too
wondering
if my thoughts are loud enough for him to hear
