some come to watch the football
but most go to have fun
and Mel decided that we should
watch the game in our football uniforms
so we cheered from the front row of the bleachers
and watched as the Cougars
decimated our team,
the Parkside Stallions
(this is horse country after all)
in the first half

I was half-expecting Ben to show up
and was surprised
at my disappointment

I didn’t need “a talk”
with him
if I was misjudging
his affection

we came back in the second half
but still lost by three
and Mel convinced me to come
back to her house
and celebrate
our loss
